What I wish I knew at 23 instead of 43

I turned 43 a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t help but reflect on who I was 20 years ago and what I wish that version of me knew.

Now, I don't regret a single thing.

If it weren’t for what I endured and learned these last two decades, I very well might not be the person I am today.

But I wanted to share with you the 8 lessons I’d tell my 23 year old self if I had the chance, because maybe some of these are things you need to hear today.

Lesson 1: Speak with integrity

If you wouldn't say something directly to someone's face, don't say it behind their back.

Choose face-to-face conversations for necessary discussions and let go of the rest.

Lesson 2: Uphold your values at all costs

Never compromise your values for perceived gains, whether it’s financial or otherwise.

Your values should guide how you build your career and the partnerships you form. Integrity comes first.

Lesson 3: Family first, always

While career success is fulfilling, family brings the greatest joy and motivation.

My companies are important, but family holds a higher place in my heart.

They drive me to work harder and achieve more than I ever have before – and that’s coming from an immigrant kid with a high bar because my dad pushed me harder than you could imagine (which I understand why as a dad myself now).

Lesson 4: Build your personal brand

23-year old me might be confused about this one since social media really wasn’t a huge thing in 2004 yet… but whether you're an entrepreneur or not, establishing a personal brand online is powerful.

Engage in online communities, contribute meaningfully, and gradually scale your presence. The impact can be life-changing.

Lesson 5: Embrace the morning

An hour of focused work in the morning can be more productive than three hours of scattered work in the afternoon.

If you're struggling to find time, try waking up earlier.

The quiet morning hours are a goldmine for productivity.

Lesson 6: Prioritize your health and appearance

Physical health and appearance are crucial for you, your family, and your business.

Take care of your body and dress for success.

These things aren’t superficial and actually matter greatly in the long run.

Lesson 7: Focus on the process

When chasing those big goals, you need to concentrate on the process, NOT the result

Dreaming about the end won't help you get there.

Focus on the daily tasks that are gonna get you there. Do a good job today and tomorrow to get results next year.

Lesson 8: Value fitness and family over anything else

Anybody can flex a Rolex or a BMW as long as they’ve got the credit card limit for it.

Now a healthy body and a happy family? That’s the biggest flex of all.

That cannot be bought. You have to earn those and put in effort.

These lessons have shaped my life, and I hope they inspire you to reflect on your own journey and growth.

Which is exactly what I want you to do this week – reflect and get your own priorities in order.

They might look different than mine, all that matters is that you know what they are and stay true to them no matter what.
