Most closing gifts suck…do yours?

Gifting champagne as a closing gift is tacky af.

I’m not saying the thought behind it is bad, but…

Some people don’t drink.

Some people are overcoming abuse.

Some people associate it as expensive.

Gifting should NOT be:

  • Generic (gift cards)
  • Perishable (especially certain foods)
  • Promotional (your company branding)

Gifting should be:

  • Useful (kitchen)
  • Personalized (their names)
  • Spontaneous (when least expected)

And the best time to gift is actually next week, during Thanksgiving, when it’s unexpected.

Let me break all this down a bit more for you:

If you’re like me, you want to show genuine appreciation to the certain people in your business.

But if we’re being really honest with each other:

We sometimes send gifts with strings attached.

In other words, we sometimes gift because we want more business.

The mindset behind gifting is to truly gift without any expectation in return.

Gifting should be unconditional.

Gifting should be inexpensive.

Gifting should be spontaneous.

I love gifting during Thanksgiving because well: we’re showing thanks.

And most people gift during Christmas which feels forced.

Pick 10-20 people you really value and appreciate working with and keep these in mind:

The best gifts are ones that can be used in the kitchen:

  • Candle
  • Apron
  • Utensils

All this can be purchased for less than $25 a gift.

And best of all, you don’t always have to gift something tangible.

Sometimes just calling that important person as saying something like:

“Hey, in spirit of Thanksgiving, I just want to tell you how grateful l am for our relationship. You’ve always been loyal to me and I never take you for granted. I know you have lots of options to refer other Loan Officers so thank you, sincerely, I feel very grateful.”

I hope this all helps you think differently about gifting.

And in the spirit of Thanksgiving…
