The current state of the market probably has a lot of you feeling like you’re well outside your wheelhouse…

You may be thinking:

I’m not cut out for this.

I don’t have the pedigree to make it through.

I’m in the wrong line of work.

And let me start by saying this:

We have ALL been there.

I have been there.

Even the most seasoned, top-producing LOs have looked in the mirror and questioned their purpose. It’s the human condition.

And while it isn’t a crime to have self-doubt (I argue it’s an important survival instinct that checks your ego)...

It IS a crime to let that self-doubt take the reins in your life.

Here’s the truth they don’t teach you in school:

Aside from your more technical jobs like being a chemist, a brain surgeon, or a rocket scientist…

99% of jobs can be taught.

Doesn’t matter if you went to a top 20 university or dropped out of high school.

As long as you’ve got good intentions and a good attitude, you’re willing and able to learn and grow, then that’s really all you need to do a job.

And if it’s any consolation, take it from me – a CEO who has hired a LOT of people in his day and is running a pretty well-oiled machine…

When I’m hiring, I’m looking more at things like:

Your attitude.

Your empathy.

Your work ethic.

How teachable you are.

How resourceful you can be.

Things like education, certifications, past experience?

That’s more of a “nice to have” for me.

I hire people, not resumes.

At the end of the day, who you are will always matter more than what you’ve done.

Remind yourself of that the next time you’re having a down-in-the-dumps existential crisis about work – and then keep it moving.
