I used to feel so guilty when I wasn’t working on the weekends or taking a few hours off during the day.
There’s nothing quite like putting the work in, day in and day out, and finally reaping the fruits of your labor.
You know: that feeling of waking up, pumped and ready to tackle whatever the day brings at you.
You feel unstoppable, like nothing can take you down, on top of the world…
…and then you hit a wall.
Because while you’ve been putting in the hours for multiple days in a row, the burnout has been slowly kindling.
It’s been creeping up on you while you’ve been “hustling”.
And now you’ve run out of gas.
It’s not a pretty picture, but it’s a real one. I see it all the time.
During the current housing storm we’re in, I am seeing a lot of burnt out Loan Officers.
Loan Officers that are putting in the work, but not seeing the results.
2020 and 2021 were the “1+1=10” days. Loans galore.
2022 and 2023 have been the “1+1=.1” days. Loan scarcity.
2019 was the best market (IMO) as it was “1+1=2”.
Normal market math.
So, right now, we all have to realign our expectations and understand that there are differences between:
Excuses and Exceptions.
Resting and Laziness.
Burst over Burnout.
You are just human.
And you know what? Humans need rest.
So while my evergreen advice is to simply never run your business in a way that brings you to that standstill, sometimes burnout is just inevitable.
That said, here are my personal tips for getting through this taxing market:
All these things help keep my stress levels down and allow me to show up better the next day for work.
P.S. God and family are not itemized in the list above because that’s a daily non-negotiable for me.
Here are your action steps for today:
Build your own personal burnout recovery plan.
Start thinking of all the things that help you get grounded, and write it down somewhere so the next time you hit that wall, you’ve got an action plan you can put in place right then and there.
Lastly, remember:
This too shall pass, and we’ll see one of the greatest housing runs on the other side.
Whenever you’re ready, here’s how I can help you!
